Canyon Lake Veterinary Hospital (Rapid City, South Dakota) opened its doors in 1974, and was the first AAHA accredited hospital in South Dakota.
At that time, Dr. Mortimer worked with only one assistant. As a result of the success of Canyon Lake Veterinary Hospital and increased demand for high quality care, the hospital family has grown to two veterinarians, four registered veterinary technicians, a veterinary assistant, a receptionist, and a kennel attendant.
It is with great pride and much hard work that CLVH earned accreditation by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Less than 5% of all animal hospitals in the country are AAHA accredited. In order to remain part of this elite group, CLVH must keep the highest of standards and endure rigorous on-site inspections. CLVH was awarded a 25 year Standards of Excellence in June of 2001.
The mission of CLVH is to provide exceptional pet care at a fair cost, to provide the highest quality, individualized care to clients and their pets, and to maintain a courteous and professional atmosphere which promotes mutual respect between clients and staff. By demonstrating pride in their work and using a team approach to educate their clients in the importance of preventive medicine, CLVH’s staff will promote both human and animal well-being.

Services available from CLVH include a Well Pet Program for Puppies; a Well Pet Program for Kittens; a Well Pet Program for Senior Pets; Exotic Pet Care for a variety of exotic pets, including small birds, parrots, lizards, rabbits, ferrets, turtles, snakes, hedgehogs, sugar gliders, rats, mice, guinea pigs, gerbils, and hamsters; Pet Hospice; and Wildlife Rescue.
